Specifically, I'm looking for advice on unit readiness:I'm having some difficulty with the tutorial scenario on the Korean War. Playing against the AI I'm getting absolutely hammered. Historically both sides took a hammering, but the North Koreans didn't advance very far and neither did the Chinese in this game.I keep noticing that my units lose readiness and never gain it back. I've tried rotating them out of combat, putting HQs nearby, repairing railroads up to them, not using them in combat, but heir readiness stays at rock bottom.

Norm Kogers The Operational Art of War III. Norm Kogers The Operational Art of War is a legendary title among wargamers. A masterpiece of flexible design, it allows you to play and create any battle from the entire 20th Century of warfare and up to the modern day.

Also long before unit readiness falls for the Chinese their attacks at high odds start to do nothing.More generally, I'm looking for common tips and strategies. For example, I find that attacking at less than 4:1 odds to be futile, whilst encirclement followed by a successful attack is the only real way to destroy units. I appreciate what they're trying to do with it, and I've only realised how 'cool' this sort of stuff is by the 4th incarnation, but, I'm not sure its accessible to newbies, or even normal chit suffling operational wargamers. I admire the paradigm shift, but does it enhance the playtime, or just hide a lot of exquisite detail behind a lot of calculations and complications that isn't easy for a human to grasp. Time slices in a turn for example.

Having to be a time lord to appreciate operational considerations might be a step too far. I love the idea of it.

A gate opens in the heart of the complex and unnatural horrors pour out. The work seems to be going well, but.The creatures from Outside have their dire attention drawn towards the new research. Doom ii levels.

I'm not entirely sure its 'fun' to play through worrying about time slices. Still undecided.
