Sueodeluna2 is a fanfiction author that has written 6 stories for Pride and Prejudice, Big Hero 6, Zoey 101, Gravity Falls, and Victorious.

My 7 year old daughter LOVES this show. And season one seemed mild enough. Then it started getting a little too romantic for a 7 year old. Nothing obscene - and no 'make out sessions' - but there is kissing and all the characters end up in romantic relationships.

We have continued watching the series together - because it is very mild (a little kiss here or there and not in every episode) and she LOVES the show. It just requires a little parental guidance and follow-up talks about how, in real life, we generally save romance for when we get married. If we hadn't already started loving the show, we wouldn't have finished the series. I would save this one for your teenagers. Maybe sooner if you have kids that have already been exposed to mainstream media. In full disclosure: We don't have a TV - we watch on a laptop and only on weekends. This review comes from a pretty conservative household. This spinoff of h2o: just add water follows the exact same principles as the former series, while adding more serious drama and power language to the playing field. As such, the series is targeting a different audience (somewhat older kids).

When H2O: just add water was firstly broadcasted in the Netherlands, I started watching the series together with my younger sister. After having watched the first few episodes I no longer had to act enthusiastic: I actually was enthusiastic. The utopia-like athmosphere of the Australian Gold Coast provided the perfect setting to enroll the most important facets of the content of the series. The diversity of recognizable personalities among the main characters, together with the sunny, spacious peaceful setting and mysterious storyline allowed kids to escape from reality while at the same learning about social interaction and arguments that can arise because of the conflicting tendencies related to the different personalities. H2o: just add water as well as this spinoff manages to present effective ways to resolve conflicts/prevent them from escalating.

Problem after problem is created and solved accordingly by the character who caused the problem, admitting their mistake and reflect on his/herself.In my opinion, Mako Mermaids is less succesful in applying these principles, while adding a significant amount of meaningless and - considering the targeted audience - overly complex issues to the storylines, making it more of a stressful fairytale than an enjoyable one. As a result, the potential of the peaceful setting is practically wasted. The series is less entertaining, less overseeable and less educational when it comes to social interaction. On top of that, except for the blue-eyed mermaid, the other two clearly struggle to naturally act like a girl of the age they are supposted to represent - whatever that may be.

Constantine cast. Pretty disappointed: 5/6 out of 10. Meystec. As a huge H2O:Just Add Water fan I was disappointed when it stopped airing and only got three seasons. I could on rewatch it on Netxlix and suggested came Mako Mermaids so I thought why not. I had high hopes for this spin off but it failed to meet them. The first season was tolerable. I enjoyed the contrasting personalities and twist on the plot. As the series changed I swear all the characters were bipolar, I coudln't pin point their personalities.

Then this merman was in it and seemed to have to constantly be remind he had a six pack and was a rip off from H2O's Will. The acting from 'David' and 'Serena' was awful. They had no romantic chemistry on set and then again we had those rip offs of other characters.

This was meant to have new characters but Serenea was the perky, bubbly mermaid like Bella who always resolved fights, has a perfect girl next door character, can't tell the boy how she feels and amazing voice. By season 2 the only good actresses left the show, surely they realised that this wou don't end up well, the character explanation for the disappearance was stupid.

They abandoned their friend on their mission to search for a new home, surely Serena should of gone with them. Enters these two annoying girls out of nowhere, once again are bipolar, they're sweet, they're mean, they're moody, they're always happy.

They can't walk on legs for a few minutes then suddenly are fine. The acting from them is better than others but still isn't fantastic. Series 2-kill me now- is awful. I had expectations and I gave up after a while. The acting didn't improve, unneeded new characters arrived, one leaves so they shove a few more in?! It was a rip off H2O, no surprise!Season 1 and 2 was un creative.

They ripped off so many things, yes it's the same creators but they couldn't they think of something original? Camping on Mako, Ambergris, Pool Party, Exposed, Mako Island Gettinh Turned Into A Buisness, same moon effects etc. It was bland and predictable.

They didn't have a new plot but shoved in the same characters. The acting was poor. Script awful. Predictable plot.

Rip off of H2O. Wouldn't recomend. H2O has talented actors who actually got somewhere with their careers after(Claire Holt, Phoebe Tonkin) and can act.

The script is witty, more believable and has amazing effects. The plot, though similar to Mako Mermaids, isn't prediactable and exciting and grips you from the start. It is original.

Amazing showMaybe I had too high of hopes but the character's personalities are split, sin isle got the other show and dear God please actually have actors who can actually act and show chemistry. The couples show no sign of liking towards each other and it so pathetic. They try to add music but her voice isn't suited to our pop music so instead she sings songs that nobody would ever listen to.

I won't deny she can sing but it is overdone nowadays. Bella, from H2O, has catchy songs and back a few years ago I would listen to her non stop.

The music was amazing and well written. I know I'm comparing the two shows a lot but it is meant to be a spin off and I was hoping for a more modernised version of the show. I had expectations. The only good role model is Serena really but she is way too perfect and can't say no. The others are obnoxious and fiery. The messages are good but the friendships are very rocky in this. It doesn't involve anything horrible in it in terms of violence, a few power battles and an odd almost fight but it might be entertaining for those who haven't saw H2O.

It would be a great show for young girls but those over 10 will see my point. This spinoff has a few nice ideas, but they are quickly lost in the two-dimensional, formulaic representation of those ideas that someone, somewhere described as 'writing.' I want to give it two stars since it's for kids, and thus not meant to be very in-depth. The problem with doing that: Just about any kid old enough to understand the concept of mermaids would have critical thinking skills enough to not suffer through a half hour of these three mermaids' sheer and absolute stupidity and incompetence - let alone three seasons. If you're an adult looking for yourself, don't bother. If you're an adult looking for your kids and you have low expectations of your kids, then it might be worth the 'When All Else Fails' list of shows.

I watched every episode of H2o: Just add water, with my kids.We all enjoyed the show immensely and were disappointed when it went off the air. When Mako Mermaids was introduced, we looked forward to the first season.

What a huge disappointment!! Other than Mako Island, there is nothing spin-offery about this show. I ask anyone to comment on the fact that if there had been a pod of mermaids with ties to Mako Island, how is it that they never noticed the 4 human mermaids that spent a great deal of their days and sometimes nights, out there.

Not to mention their boyfriends and other companions that frequented the island. Yet, in the first episode, no mention of any humans or mer-humans spending any time on that island. Besides the fact that there hasn't been a single actor in the first 3 episodes of season 1, that is at all likable. My kids kept asking where the actors from H2o had gone and I don't have an answer for them. They are bored with this show and none of us will be watching any more of it. My 9 year old and I found this show entertaining and fun to watch. The main characters are three teenage mermaids who find themselves thrust into the human world suddenly after an oversight on their part allows a 'land boy' to become a merman. What I really liked best about this show was that it featured a strong group of female characters who had interesting problems. There was some mild romance, but it was well done and never becomes the focus of attention for any of the main characters.

(One minor character, Evie, is more concerned with her boyfriend than with anything else, but she's the exception and not the rule.)The character development is somewhat uneven and it is frustrating when in some episodes or instances characters don't act 'like themselves' but the writing is not awful, in fact, it's better than average). The female characters are all of a healthy weight and body type. They wear makeup, but not too much.

They sometimes wear low cut beach wear or short skirts/shorts but, again, nothing awful and definitely better than average. Most of the time, they look natural and healthy. There is no drinking, drugs or smoking. The romance is mild and tasteful. We loved that the main adult character, Rita, is also a strong woman. She makes her own decisions and is successful in her career and happy in her private life (no boyfriend, no husband - just a strong adult woman). The same holds true for the mermaids, they are independent and strong characters.

All of them are thrust into an unexpected and unwanted world when they are banished from their pod, but this isn't the focus - instead, the focus is on how they all find a way to thrive, even when things aren't perfect.Overall, we really enjoyed this show - it wraps up pretty nicely in 2 seasons. The ending could have been stronger, but it worked well and we are satisfied.I wish there were more shows with such positive female role models for this age range.
